I have an '01 E46 with the ZF5HP19 transmission and have no forward gears.
The vehicle ran smoothe with no faults, then all of a sudden after a wash, the transmission goes into limp mode.
It has no forward drive, just revs then lets out a loud thump from the rear when it seems to want to engage. Reverse gear is fine.
After the thump, the 'error' light indicates on the dash.
Using a Launch scan tool, I found it had codes " 049- sympton, gear monitoring' 059- Stall speed (P0720), and then showed "2, 30, 0, 34 and said to refer to relevant technical manual"
After searching on the net, I did find a bulletin where there was an issue with electromagnetic interference or voltage fluctuation in vehicle's electrical system affecting the transmission turbine speed signal.
Is this a known issue? Is changing the output speed sensor a big job?
Thank you in advance for any help you may give me.
