i have a '97 2.5 boxster tiptronic with 95k miles and have recently started to get a jerky gear shift especially between 2nd and 3rd...
sometimes when at a stop and pull away the gear starts in 2nd and feels like it is changing but the light says it is still in 2nd... as i accelerate further it changes to 3rd but it is not a smooth shift like it is when it goes from 3rd to 4th and 5th...
any ideas? i have had the 96k tiptronic service done as required in the maintenance schedule (new filter and ATF) to see if this made any difference.. sadly it didnt!
i have heard on various porsche forums (www.renntech.orgwww.boxa.net) that it could be a torque converter issue or low ATF level problem... does this seem likely or is it going to need a rebuild?
we make a lot of this gearboxes for the Audi what is the same also some BMW have the same unit.Audi have mostly torque converter problems, we don't have it much on the Porsche. The rear section on rear clutch one-way clutch is most the time broken on this units. Is no quick fix, only replacement.
It's start up with heavy jerk un-regally shifting und down shift glung and it get worse and worse with time. I guess after the service it was worse as before !
You can try, by performing a adaptation read the codes before and be sure you don't have any failure codes, this helps in some situations
