Hi, I have a 2001 Volkswagen Jetta VR6 automatic trans. It has roughly 706,634 miles on it. Besides basic oil changes and things of that sort, it's worked like a dream. But recently, my transmission has been acting strange. When I accelerate and it shifts from 1st to 2nd and 2nd to 3rd, it does what I'd call "slipping". It did it for like one day a couple months ago but it went away and things were fine. Now it's slipping all the time. There's been a couple people telling me it could be minor and others telling me I'll need to buy a new transmission all-together..
Then a couple dings! The car loses all the memory in the ECU when you have disconnected the battery or a empty battery over night. This means the car does not more know how to drive !
symptoms like slipping, wrong shift and so on, my accrue !
The car reaches a higher mileage a function is called "basic settings" have to be performed ! The car normally perform this task automatically, but for many reasons he my not,-like you have any failure codes,-no adaptation!! or other problems.
In the old time, we adjust the transmission with the wrench, Now we use the computer and we called "Basic settings" or "adaptation" relearning version in English.
It is hard to explain in a short letter, I can write a hole book about it then write it in English is more harder for me, but I hope you get the point.
Go to a mechanic and let him perform "basic settings" my not to late. he also can go in advanced mode with his tool and perform a electronic function test and this tells him of any failure in the transmission electronic.
I have a 2000 VR6 Jetta with an automatic transmission(01M-4speed). It recently started "slipping again" at 20,000 miles after being rebuilt by European Transmission. I don't understand how this can be.
2 years ago at 109,000 miles 3rd gear started slipping until it would no longer shift to 4th gear. I was told the only thing to do was get it rebuilt. So I came to European Transmission on the web after doing some research. Herb, you are very knowledgable can you give me an explanation as to how this is possible?
A VW transmission mechanic pulled out the old one here in VA, I shipped it to you in GA because you were cheaper(even after 200 dollars in shipping costs), you rebuilt it, shipped it back to VA, the mechanic at Gene's Transmission installed it after filling it with VW automatic transmission fluid I purchased at the dealership, and it worked like butter...until a month ago. Slipping 3rd gear again. Is this why there is only a 1 year warranty? Should it not last until 109,000 miles again or at least 50,000. I am very disturbed over this. Can you be of any help?

PS I have had a catalytic converter/O2 sensor code since I purchased the vehicle and 3 VW dealerships have not been able to tell me why I keep getting codes. They said the airflow is normal. The check engine light is always on. Even after they reset it. Good grief! Could this prevent my transmission basic setting feature and destroy my wunderbar transmission after only 20K miles? Helfen mir bitte.
