I just salvaged a 750il which sat in a garage for 2 years. Supposedly it got stuck in a snow drift and the owner tried to rock the car backwards and forwards and at some point the car only wanted to drive in reverse, one could choose D (123) but no joy, so he backed it into the garage where it sat.
Last saturday i looked at it and the shifter is locked, the selector shaft into the gearbox is solid. I know the prev owner used some force as he bent the locking pin in the shifter handle. The oil has obvious black particles in it.
I want to try to strip and rebuilding this myself as a winter project and was looking for some ideas on failure modes as well as where to find a shop manual for the 4hp24. I did a search on this website but did not find a manual for the 4HP24. I figure if i can overhaul the 12 cylinder engine, i should be able to tackle the gearbox too
Any suggestions, ideas, etc are very welcome, the car has 150.000 miles on it.
Hi, yes you can built your transmission by yourself, call our shop you get a manual. This is a common problem on the 4HP22/24 that the front clutch burns of, specially in the way you try to get out of the snow.
