I have a 81 380sl the tranny will not go into reverse /park if i park on a incline some time it go into park. I changed the fluid/filter hoping this help or fix the problem but no when it had the pan off i noticed theres piston on the valve body when going from park to drive that this piston pushes out so you cannt go from drive /neutral to revese saftey. so i pushed it in and the shifter move threw all gears after starting the car with fresh fluids pressuring the tranny took it out of park to drive, then drive to park it wouldnot go to revrse so the what cause the pressure to release off the piston so you can goto reverse or park. Hope the tranny tech know what Im talking about.
Hi, when I get it right, the problem you have is only when the engine is running, correct ? You need to make the centrifugal governor operable. Clean him and make sure he is function perfectly. Then clean the lower cover plate with the detent piston and make sure the detent piston is operating perfectly
