My A4S310R/4L30E transmission is throwing a Trans Program Error and going into limp mode, usualy on a kick-down shift from 3rd-2nd while coasting.
I had the Code read on a GT1 which indicated pins 40-41 are shorted. That controls the Hydraulic Pressure Regulator. They dropped the pans to look for debris, some metal in there, but solenoids all looked ok. Topped it off and sealed it back up. I need to drive it more to see if the Trans Progam Error still happens. It was fine on my 4 mile drive home.
My question: can you use an e36 M3A5S310Z/5HP18 from an OBDII car (1997) in an OBDI e24 525iT? I assume you would need the matching transmission harness and EGS that goes with it, but doesn't it talk to the ECM as well? Is there any way to make it work?
If it means splicing harnesses, I will be inclined to do a 5/6 spd manual swap (with driveshaft/diff/pedal box/hydraulics) and just call it a day...for this, I assume I can use any manual transmission (e34/e36/e39/e46) bolted up to an e34 manual driveshaft and matching diff (I know the output flange is different on e36/e34 transmissions, but that can be switched as well)
